A note from our President

A new term of office for Local Government has commenced and with it, both old and new councillors from across the NT. Congratulations to all of you on being elected to represent your local community. It’s a privilege to be elected and I have no doubt you all have lots of energy and ideas to contribute.

I look forward to meeting with many of you next week for the ‘LGANT Leadership in Local Government Symposium’ for all new Mayors, Presidents, Deputies and CEOs.

This is a valuable opportunity to prepare for the next four years and learn from local government representatives and experts from across the country. Both novice and expert peers and colleagues will be able to develop their leadership skills by networking and sharing knowledge. I look forward to welcoming the Honourable Gerry McCarthy, Minister for Housing and Community Development to open the symposium.

On a sad note, and on behalf of all our members, I express my condolences to the family, friends and colleagues in the MacDonnell region on the passing of Councillor L. Abbott. As a long standing member of MacDonnell Regional Council, Councillor Abbott will be well remembered as a strong leader both on council and in the community.

Damien Ryan, President

Local Government Association of the Northern Territory
