Financial Sustainability

The 2006 Pricewaterhouse Coopers’ ‘National Financial Sustainability Study of Local Government[iii]  identifies financially sustainable councils as having:

  • a reasonable scale in operations and population
  • a strong rates income
  • a strong economic base
  • a sophisticated asset management and financial management system in place.

Councils in the NT are working as a sector with the Australian and Northern Territory Governments towards achieving financial sustainability.
