The 2006 Pricewaterhouse Coopers’ ‘National Financial Sustainability Study of Local Government’[iii] identifies financially sustainable councils as having:
- a reasonable scale in operations and population
- a strong rates income
- a strong economic base
- a sophisticated asset management and financial management system in place.
Councils in the NT are working as a sector with the Australian and Northern Territory Governments towards achieving financial sustainability.
