2012 Council Elections

Local councils play a strong and vital role in the provision of services to its communities. Indeed, its performance in this role can have a significant impact on the ‘quality of life’ of residents. Councils also provide an important representative role on behalf of its residents.

Councils in the Northern Territory form important political and social communities with an indispensable knowledge of the needs of the local area and for this very reason, Local Government is often referred to as the ‘grass roots’ level of government.

The community elects their Council Members every four years. The next Council elections will be held in March 2012.
