LGANT Committee Representation
LGANT, on behalf of its members, facilitates the nomination of elected members or staff to external committees and organisations wanting local government representation. The following is a list of committees and organisations which LGANT has representatives on.
Administration and Legislation Advisory Committee
This committee makes recommendations to the Minister for Local Government largely on local government legislation and occasionally on operational issues relevant to local government management. It has representation from local government as well as the Department of Local Government, Housing and Sport.

Animal Welfare Advisory Committee
This committee makes recommendations to the Minister for Local Government on matters relevant to animal welfare. It has representation from local government as well as the Department of Local Government, Housing and Sport and other organisations.

Community Safety Working Group
This committee has responsibility for the oversight, planning and delivery of strategies and activities across Northern Territory Government agencies to do with community safety.

Darwin Harbour Advisory Committee
This committee oversees the implementation of the Darwin Harbour Regional Plan of Management.

This committee provides a mechanism for dealing with complaints relating to breaches of a council’s Code of Conduct by elected members.

This committee assesses grants for a wide variety of community and school environmental initiatives all over the Territory.

This committee is established to provide advice to the Minister for Local Government as well as the Department of Local Government, Housing and Sport on financial management and accounting practices and the legislation that can improve it.

National Local Government Drug and Alcohol Committee
This committee was formed to facilitate information exchange, promote member activities and encourage local government input to the National Drug Strategy 2004 – 2009.

This committee acts as a representative advisory and community reference group for the Police Commissioner on community participation, crime prevention and personnel safety initiatives.

This organisations purpose is to make recommendations to the Australian Government through the Northern Territory Minister for Local Government on the distribution of financial assistance and local roads grants to local governments in the Northern Territory.

This organisation acts as a representative, advisory and community reference group for the Minister for Natural Resources, The Environment and Heritage.

Settlement Planning Committee
This committee was formed as a cooperative endeavour between Commonwealth, Territory and Local Government agencies and community organisations to focus on settlement services for refugees.
