Local Government Week 2011

Local Government Week in the Northern Territory provides an opportunity for councils to increase awareness and understanding of the importance of local government amongst the communities they represent. It is also an opportunity to recognise the valuable contribution elected members and council staff make to communities across the Northern Territory
In 2008, the local government reform process led to the introduction of shire councils and the new Local Government Act. Three years on, with the establishment of eight new local governments, bringing the total to 16 councils in the Northern Territory, Local Government Week is an opportune time to collectively promote the services, infrastructure and facilities councils provide to their communities.
Councils deliver a huge range of services and facilities. The things that make a community a ‘community’ often come from local councils – public libraries, sporting grounds and facilities, parks and gardens, aged care facilities and child care facilities.
The Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT) is working with councils across the Northern Territory to host a range of exciting events and activities during Local Government Week.
LGANT will provide a coordination and marketing role in the promotion of all Local Government Week activities, including registration of all events on the LGANT website and media advertising. Download the Event Registration Form and Media Release template below.
