LGANT faclitates the coordination amongst councils through Reference Groups who provide expert advice on government issues, legislative change, policy formulation and collaborative effort.  Use the links below to go to the group of your choice.

CEO Forum

The CEO forum exists is to bring together, through meetings, the Chief Executive Officers of Northern Territory local governments, the Nhulunbuy Corporation and the Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT) to discuss and resolve:

  • legislative change or compliance
  • policy development proposals
  • issues with the Territory and Australian Governments
  • recommendations from all of the reference groups.

The CEO forum is also used as a forum for collaboration where expertise can be used on matters of common interest and where mutual benefit is apparent. The Forum meets four times a year and the meetings are held in Darwin and Alice Springs.

The LGANT representative for the CEO Forum is Tony Tapsell.

Finance Reference Group

The Finance Reference Group exists so that the Corporate Services Directors and Finance Managers or their equivalent from the Northern Territory Local Governments, the Nhulunbuy Corporation, LGANT and CouncilBIZ come together to:

  • make recommendations to the CEO Forum on significant financial issues faced by local government
  • make recommendations for legislative change
  • bring expertise together to collaborate on matters of common interest and where mutual benefit is apparent
  • assist in the formulation of LGANT policy to do with finance, taxation and economic reform
  • assist individual Directors with the formulation of council policies or directions to be taken or proposed at the council level

The Finance Reference group meets four times a year and the meetings are held in Darwin and Alice Springs.

The LGANT representative for the Finance Reference Group is Tony Tapsell.

  • assist individual Managers with the formulation of council policies or directions to be taken or proposed at the council level on governance

The Governance Reference Group meets three times a year with the meetings being held in Katherine, Alice Springs and Darwin.

The LGANT representative for the Governance Reference Group is Sue Davy.

Environment, Transport & Infrastructure (ET&I) Reference Group

The reason the ET&I Reference Group exists is to bring together through meetings, Directors of Infrastructure (or their equivalents) from Northern Territory local governments, the Nhulunbuy Corporation, Mabunji Resource Centre and LGANT to:

  • make recommendations to the CEO Forum on significant environment, transport and infrastructure issues faced by local government
  • make recommendations for legislative change
  • bring expertise together to collaborate on matters of common interest and where mutual benefit is apparent
  • assist in the formulation of LGANT policy to do with environment, transport and infrastructure issues
  • assist individual Managers with the formulation of council policies or directions to be taken or proposed at the council level on environment, transport and infrastructure

The ET&I Reference Group is held three times a year in the months of February, June and October. The locations for the meetings are Katherine, Alice Springs and Darwin.

The LGANT representatives for the Environment, Transport & Infrastructure Reference Group are Peter McLinden and Shenagh Gamble.

Human Resource Reference Group

The reason the HR Reference Group exists is to bring together through meetings, HR Managers (or their equivalents) from Northern Territory local governments, the Nhulunbuy Corporation and LGANT to:

  • make recommendations to the CEO Forum on significant human resources issues faced by local government
  • make recommendations for legislative change
  • bring expertise together to collaborate on matters of common interest and where mutual benefit is apparent
  • assist in the formulation of LGANT policy to do with human resources issues
  • assist individual Managers with the formulation of council policies or directions to be taken or proposed at the council level on human resources.

The Human Resource Reference Group is held three times a year with the meetings being held in Katherine, Alice Springs and Darwin.

The LGANT representative for the Human Resource Reference Group is Sue Davy.
