West Arnhem Regional Council is comprised of four wards, each with three councillors elected at general elections. The councillors, as a group, choose a mayor from these elected representatives.
Every month, councillors meet at the council chambers at the headquarters in Jabiru (in the Jabiru Town Plaza) for Ordinary Council Meetings.
The councillors have established a number of additional council committees to improve governance and accountability. These are the Audit Committee and the Finance and Policy Committee, which also meet at the headquarters in Jabiru.
Local boards have also been established in all four Aboriginal communities to improve the input from communities and residents on decisions that affect them.
