LGANT, in collaboration with the NT Electoral Commission (NTEC) and the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), is holding information sessions around the NT for those interested in running for the 2017 Local Government Elections.


Sessions so far . . .

On 16 May, about 20 people including interested residents, current elected members and council staff, attended the Palmerston session. Tony Tapsell  (CEO, LGANT, pictured left), Wayne Harlock (Deputy Electoral Commissioner, NT Electoral Commission ) and Nathan Fanning (Manager, Local Authorities DHCD) presented a range of valuable information about the elected member role, expectations and electoral considerations. They also answered questions about age limits on scrutineers, ballot paper colours, early voting centres, and campaign materials and authorisation.
Victoria Daly elected members and staff held a briefing in Katherine on 22 May where they were presented with information from the Electoral Commission about important election dates and processes involved with nominating and canvassing.
Another session was held at Katherine Town Council with residents, elected members and council staff attending prior to the community forum and council meeting. A session was also held earlier in the month at Litchfield Council.

All councils are encouraged to promote these sessions in order to gain as much interest as possible.
