Fifteen staff and elected members from four councils attended a meeting procedures training workshop at the Katherine Town Council on 19 April. Some of the issues addressed include:

  • knowledge of the legislation/ policies
  • meeting timeframes
  • agendas
  • minutes
  • plan for timely auctioning of decisions.

The lively, engaging interactive session was enjoyed by all who contributed to discussions, role-play and question and answers sessions.

The participants from Katherine Town Council, Roper Gulf and Victoria Regional Councils and Litchfield Council provided strong feedback that the training is essential for elected members early in their terms, and further sessions should be held after the August elections.

The training was delivered by Allan McGill, who has a long successful history in the NT local government sector as a Chief  Executive Officer in a number of councils.
