Training & Capacity Development

LGANT represents its member councils on a range of training and development committees and activities to ensure our members can access current and relevant training providers and resources.

Current involvement:

  • Government Skills Australia, Industry Advisory Council member
  • Local Government Associations National Training Managers Group
  • Top End Education and Training Network
  • WALGA, Workplace Solutions, NT based trainer
  • Close liaison with the Local Government Centre of Excellence

The WA Local Government Association through Local Government Workplace Solutions is available to provide training and development to Local Governments in the Northern Territory in partnership with LGANT. Many of WALGA’S courses are relevant to the NT Local Government environment including the following courses available for officers:

  • Managing Employee Performance in Local Government
  • Conducting Bullying and Harassment Investigations
  • Effective Letter and Report Writing in Local Government
  • Preparing Agendas and Minutes in Local Government
  • Customer Service and Complaints Handling
  • Policy Development and Procedure Writing

Training.gov.au is a new website being developed.

A range of national stakeholders are currently designing and developing a suite of public websites, databases, administrative tools and supporting infrastructure collectively referred to as Training.gov.au. This site will be absorbing the function of the National Training Information Service (NTIS).

There will be three public websites:

  • TrainYourPeople.gov.au
  • YourRTO.gov.au

Government Skills Australia is the industry skills council for government and community safety. Government Skills Australia is committed to providing high quality training resources and services to support government administration, services and operations.

The Top End Education and Training Network (TEETN).

TEETN is a professional Top End network established, to bring together all public and private training providers, job network agencies, government departments, educational institutions and indigenous communities in a non-affiliated network to action education and training initiatives to meet the networks aims.

TEETN operates as an independent “Community of Practice” in the Top End and represents Indigenous Education and Training issues and concerns.

Human Services Training Advisory Council (HSTAC)

Human Services Training Advisory Council (HSTAC) is a Northern Territory organisation with membership drawn from industry and community.

Their Council provides leadership and advice about vocational education and training to ensure quality outcomes in the delivery of human services.

The human services industry includes:

  • Community Services – aged care, alcohol & other drugs work, children’s services, disability and respite services, youth work, community work
  • Health – dental, mental, medical, environmental and Indigenous health services, ambulance,
  • Correctional Services
  • Local Government
  • Education
