Local government in the Northern Territory manages 15,241 km of the local roads network and LGANT manages 2,117 km of road network. However, with the continued rapid growth and expansion of the Territory, these numbers are set to continuously increase.
The provision of adequate road infrastructure is critical to the economic and social well-being of communities, particularly in remote areas.
Roads are an integral aspect of society functioning effectively as they provide:
- access to communities
- links to other communities
- movement of freight, especially essential goods and services
- access to government and medical services
- the conduit for employment and business development in communities.
LGANT is involved in the management of road projects throughout the Northern Territory. Click here for a list of all of the roads which are LGANT’s responsibility to manage, control and maintain.
This list includes nominated distances, geographical location of communities, Slap Map ID number and other names for the communities and may be of great benefit to those who work or intend to work within these areas.
