REFERENCE GROUPS

LGANT facilitates the coordination amongst councils through Reference Groups who provide expert advice on government issues, legislative change, policy formulation and collaborative effort.

CEO FORUM

The CEO forum exists to bring together, through meetings, the Chief Executive Officers of Northern Territory local governments, associate members and the Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT) to discuss and resolve:

  • legislative change or compliance
  • policy development proposals
  • issues with the Territory and Australian Governments
  • recommendations from all of the reference groups.

The CEO forum is also used as a forum for collaboration where expertise can be used on matters of common interest and where mutual benefit is apparent. The Forum meets twice a year and the meetings are held in Darwin and Alice Springs.

The LGANT representative for the CEO Forum is Tony Tapsell.

COMMUNITY SERVICES REFERENCE GROUP (CSRG)

The first meeting of the CSRG was held on the 28 October 2016 in Alice Springs being hosted by the MacDonnell Regional Council and chaired by LGANT. The CSRG as with the other reference groups has  four significant areas for agenda items to fit into:

  • issues of collaboration
  • legislative change or compliance
  • policy development proposals
  • issues with Territory and Australian governments.

This will maintain discipline in issues discussed, ensure action plans and a history is reported to reference groups.
